Coker University Implements Precautionary Lockdown Measures

HARTSVILLE, SC – March 24, 2024 – Coker University has initiated lockdown measures in response to a security concern on campus. The safety and well-being of students, faculty, and staff are the University’s top priority, and these measures have been put in place to ensure the continued safety of the campus community.

During the lockdown, access to campus buildings will be restricted, and all individuals on campus are advised to remain indoors and follow the instructions provided by campus security personnel.

Coker University administration is working closely with the Hartsville Police Department to investigate the nature of the security concern and will provide updates to the campus community as more information becomes available.

Coker University Lifts Precautionary Lockdown Following Security Clearance

HARTSVILLE, SC – March 25, 2024 – Coker University announces the lifting of precautionary lockdown measures after receiving security clearance from law enforcement authorities. The campus lockdown, initiated earlier today in response to a security concern, has been lifted, and normal campus operations will resume.

Following thorough investigations by the Hartsville Police Department in collaboration with campus security, it has been determined that there is no ongoing threat to the safety of the campus community. As such, the lockdown protocols have been lifted, and all campus buildings and facilities are now accessible to students, faculty, and staff.

Because of Hurricane Idalia, all evening events have been canceled or relocated to a safe indoor location. The threat of flooding, downed trees, and powerlines is great as the evening continues.

At this time, we expect to resume normal operations on Thursday and Friday. Campus administrators will continue to monitor the forecast and weather situation closely.
